Just three weeks after our packed out London event, Indicium AI’s Applied AI Symposium came to New York for the first time - bringing together enterprise leaders across banking, capital markets and insurance at The Malin in Chelsea.
Steve Pickens, VP of Client Leadership for the US at Indicium AI, and Isabela Blasi, VP of Partnerships for the Americas at Indicium AI, opened the afternoon. Steve set the tone: "Every enterprise in this room has run pilots. The question now is which ones the business can actually measure, and deploy into production."
Activity vs. Impact: How Regulated Financial Firms Tell Real AI Value from Noise
GianPiero Bresolin, VP of AI at Indicium AI, moderated the first panel with David Byrne, Group Leader, Data Platforms at LSEG. The panel talked about a challenge shared by many in the room: there are plenty of pilots and adoption metrics, but no clear view of whether AI is actually making a difference to their business.
The conversation focused on how regulated firms decide where to invest, what it takes for the business to trust the output at scale, and how to tell whether a use case is working or should be shut down.
Rebuilt, Not Retrofitted: How AI Is Transforming the Way Insurers Work
Zaheer Khaled, Client Partner at Indicium AI, hosted a fireside chat with Eric Budde of Lockton.
They discussed why the bigger opportunity in insurance is not adding AI to existing workflows, but rethinking those workflows entirely. Underwriters, claims handlers and actuaries can now prototype tools in an afternoon that once sat in a backlog for months.
Doing that safely takes clear rules, especially when client data is involved. The question is no longer whether the business should build, but how to make the safe path the easiest one.
Five takeaways from the Applied AI Symposium New York
- Invest deliberately, not in scattered pilots. Put the data and architecture foundations in place before the first use case goes live.
- Build trust in the output. Back the output with evaluation, controls and security so the business can rely on it at enterprise scale.
- Measure impact, not activity. Know what you would track to tell whether a use case is working, or that it needs to be shut down.
- Let the business build. Give the people closest to the work a clear path from personal prototype to something the whole desk can rely on.
- Rebuild the work, don't retrofit it. Move from helping people work faster to redesigning how the work gets done.
Indicium AI CTO Steve Bryen closed the day with a look at the road ahead: taking AI from a promising demo to something running safely in production.
