Inside the Global Tech Council: How Indicium AI Is Building a Worldwide Engineering Community

As Indicium AI accelerates into new markets - with growth in the US now leading the charge - one question keeps coming up internally: how do we keep our engineering culture connected as we scale? The answer has been quietly taking shape since earlier this year, in the form of the Global Tech Council (GTC) - and it's now building real momentum.

We spoke to Nathan Webster, Director of Engineering, about what the GTC is, why it came about, and why now is such a pivotal moment for it.

What is the GTC?

At its simplest, the GTC is Indicium AI's vehicle for making sure tech stays elevated and front and centre in every conversation across the business.

"Technology sits at the core of Indicium AI - it always has," Nathan explains. "So post-merger, having alignment across our global tech teams is just as important as aligning on commercial, sales and finance. Technology isn't just supporting the business - it's driving it, everywhere, together."

That means asking a simple question: how do we bring our engineering teams closer together globally, so we're not reinventing the wheel in every office, every client engagement, every time? The GTC exists to help engineers build on each other's work, share knowledge, and iterate - because the reason clients choose Indicium AI is our ability to bring industry best practice to accelerate their business. That only works if what we learn in one place gets applied everywhere else too.

It's also about opportunity. As Indicium AI builds more of its own products, the GTC gives structure to how those get supported and developed for the long term, rather than staying as a great idea someone built over a weekend. And it gives engineers a global stage to shape new tools, methods and frameworks, with their thinking heard well beyond their own client team.

Why momentum is building now

The GTC wasn't created as a reaction to a single moment - but its timing isn't an accident either. Indicium AI is expanding quickly into new markets and locations, including a growing team in New York, and that growth means the business needs to be far more deliberate about how it operates at scale than it has before.

"Technologists make up around 80% of our business and tech has always been at the heart of what we do. The GTC is about making sure that as we scale globally, we're amplifying that strength and people are building on each other's work rather than reinventing it."

With commercial and operational foundations now firmly in place, the GTC supercharges what's always been core to Indicium AI - putting tech at the centre of the business's next chapter of global growth.

Building the community - not just the org chart

What makes the GTC distinctive is that it isn't a top-down working group issuing decisions. "It's a way for us to bring everyone together under the same banner," says Nathan. "It's a community and lots of people will have opportunities to get involved."

That community-first approach is already visible in the initiatives rolling out under the GTC banner:

  • Learning Dojos - hands-on training sessions bringing in outside experts. A graph databases session with Neo4j drew 120 people globally; a four-hour Langfuse deep-dive attracted around 160; and sessions run from Portugal helping teams get up to speed with Claude certification saw more than 100 people take part.
  • Technology Missions and Side Quests - small, cross-region squads of three to six people tackling real global product opportunities. Demand has been so strong that several have been oversubscribed, with future missions planned so more people get a chance to take part.
  • A tech blog - giving engineers a genuine voice in the external industry, showcasing the work happening across the business rather than leaving it siloed inside individual client teams.
  • Hackathons - starting with a two-day GTC-led workshop and hackathon with the Brazil team in Florianópolis, with similar events planned in Portugal and London into next year.
  • A strong identity - including a mascot called Pip (chosen in a naming contest and staff-wide vote) and limited-edition swag like headbands and t-shirts, designed to make participation visible and give the community something to rally around.

Every mission and side quest deliberately mixes people across regions - a rule, not a suggestion - because building those cross-location bridges is as much the point as whatever gets built.

The response so far

The early signals are strong. "Slack's come alive with conversation," Nathan says. "All the signals are looking good." There's a practical case too: bringing in industry experts to train Indicium AI's technologists globally is a two-way opportunity, giving partner businesses a platform while sparking fresh ideas internally.

A tool for attracting talent

Beyond keeping today's engineers connected, Nathan sees the GTC playing a bigger role in who chooses to join Indicium AI in the first place.

"We know we've got great engineers all over the place doing amazing work for clients - but if you're not careful, you can go off into your own client silo and lose sight of the bigger picture," he says. "We're at the cutting edge of a lot of the tech work in AI, and we should be talking about that a lot more."

That visibility matters for recruitment too. "We've had feedback from engineers who've already joined that our previous tech blog was something they looked at beforehand, to see what our engineers are really like day to day. So I think the new tech blog we’re launching soon is going to be a massive part of it."

As Indicium AI continues to scale and pushes further into markets like the US, the GTC is shaping up to be the thread that keeps engineering culture consistent and connected - wherever in the world it's happening.
