Taking AI from pilots into production to transform how a business operates is the job of Indicium AI's Forward Deployed Engineering team. That team's next chapter starts now, with GianPiero Bresolin joining as Director of Forward Deployed Engineering for the USA.
GianPiero has spent his career at the intersection of software engineering and client enablement - starting in technology consulting in South Africa, then moving to the United States around nine years ago to work with financial services teams on efficiency and modern engineering practices, and later leading engineering teams across financial services, energy, and transport and logistics through a global consultancy.
The turning point for him came when GitHub Copilot emerged as one of the first real applications of generative AI to software development. He went all in, becoming a recognized expert and running AI enablement programs for major financial services and manufacturing clients, before moving into building agent-powered products. Then Indicium AI came calling.
In his new role, GianPiero is building out the Forward Deployed Engineering team across North America - engineers who sit deliberately at the meeting point of traditional software engineering and generative AI. For GianPiero, the role is defined as much by curiosity about a client's world as by technical depth.
"The Forward Deployed Engineer role is not just technical - there are a lot of softer skills involved, a lot of process, a lot of understanding of our clients and where they're coming from," he says. "The greatest developers I've ever met have always naturally had that instinct. What I love is that it's now been codified into a role: someone whose job isn't just to deliver technology, but to understand the organization, its challenges and its problems, and build new solutions to solve them."
That distinction is why he sees the role as so critical to enterprises right now. Generative AI, in his view, is a tool rather than a solution in itself - the value comes from what an organization does with it.
"The Forward Deployed Engineer takes a problem or an opportunity for a client and synthesizes it into a solution, combining generative AI with more classic, deterministic development practices," GianPiero explains. "Traditional software engineering is focused on solutions and code. The Forward Deployed Engineer is focused on the solution for the business first - the code and the technology are the means to that end. That marrying of strong technical ability with a deep understanding of the business and its context is the value of the role."
He's also seen where enterprises most often get AI adoption wrong: handing teams licenses for tools without the enablement to realize a return on them.
"Time and time again, across large financial services providers and large manufacturers, I've seen the same pattern - licenses handed over to teams without seeing the return on investment clients expect," he says. "Our role is to help organizations understand how to best utilize these technologies. I love the language Anthropic uses around people, process and product, in that order - because everything starts with people. You need the culture shift first, then you optimize process, and only then do you build products that couldn't have existed before."
On Indicium AI's partnership with Anthropic, GianPiero doesn't understate its significance - both to clients and to why he joined.
"In all transparency, that close partnership with Anthropic was one of the first things that drew me to the role. It's an extremely privileged position, and one I don't take lightly," he says. "Now is our moment to take that partnership and, through the strong delivery we've already proven, become truly preferred partners. It's a rare opportunity to grow as a company and deliver things we could never have delivered before - and to help Anthropic become one of the largest companies in the world, which I do believe they're on track for."
Ask him why a Forward Deployed Engineer should choose Indicium AI, and the answer comes without hesitation.
"It's in the name - AI is at the forefront of what we do. We're a tech-led organization, and a lot of what we do is genuinely driven by our technology organization. That's not true of most consultancy firms," he says. "And then there are the partnerships - with Anthropic, with Databricks. Not many companies have that level of access. The best engineers want to work with the best people, using the latest and greatest technology available. That's exactly what's on offer here."
Looking further ahead, GianPiero points to software factories and inner/outer-loop development as the next frontier for AI in the enterprise - automating pieces of the development process to let teams deliver more complex solutions, faster. But he's clear that speed only matters if it's tied to outcomes.
"It's critical that when we build these agentic solutions, they're ultimately leading to a return on investment for our clients. Clients are starting to demand proof of results from these technologies - and that's where our expertise helps them actually deliver on the promise of generative AI."
